Windmill Day

Today I am going to share another of those strange celebration days of the  year, Windmill day. This day is meant to encourage you to visit a windmill and assist to ensure they are preserved.

Ecclesden Windmill, Highdown Hill, West Sussex

I am sharing an image today of the remains of a windmill near to me. Situated on Highdown Hill in West Sussex,  this is Ecclesden Mill and it was built in 1826. It had a short working life, ceasing to milling in 1872. More information about windmills local to this area can be found here.

This windmill has been restored (without the sails!) in recent years, but it still has that distinctive architecture of a windmill and stands as a reminder of the local farming past.
